Cicero Preparatory Academy College Acceptances, 2020-2023

Welcome to College Counseling, Parents!

This page will serve as your point of contact for upcoming events and information by grade level in addition to the weekly snapshot newsletters that go out each Friday afternoon. Above you will find our College Acceptances list to show you where our Scholars have applied in recent years and where they are headed after their time with us Cicero Preparatory Academy.

Events for the month of December/January:

-Parent conference week December 4th-8th. Please schedule using the Calendly link below. These are in person times, but I can do virtual if that would best serve you.

-College Field Trip to Grand Canyon University on December 12th, 2023. Permission forms due by December 8th.

-Virtual parent night on December 7th at 6:00 pm. The virtual parent night will cover the general college timeline and extracurricular involvement.

-January 1st-5th conference week availability is also linked on my Calendly. Please use this for scheduling. January conferences will be virtual.

Junior Communications:

– Juniors, make sure your permission forms are due by December 8th, 2023. We look so forward to taking you all to Grand Canyon University. There will be a college admissions 101 lesson upon our return to campus.

– Juniors, continue exploring within Naviance. Naviance should be your best friend right now for researching schools, scholarships, careers, taking career assessments and logging your favorites all in one place. If you are having trouble accessing your account or are missing one, then please send me an email to medmonston@ciceroprep.org

-Use thanksgiving break and winter break to tour schools that you are interested in! I suggest starting with our in-state schools first such as Arizona State University, University of Arizona, Grand Canyon University and Northern Arizona University.

-Mark February 3rd, 2024, on your calendars as this is the date of the Great Hearts college symposium at Scottsdale prep. More information soon to come!

-Schedule any test prep needed for the ACT which will be hosted on our campus in the spring. Ms. Edmonston will host practice workshops on campus (Dates and Times TBD).

Freshman and Sophomore Communications:

-Freshman and Sophomores, please create a professional Gmail account at your earliest convenience. The email you create in your middle school-junior high years can be unprofessional sometimes and colleges will expect you to have an appropriate username. For example, iceprincess37@gmail.com might not be the most appropriate email address for creating a clean and organized application as well as first impression.

– Move through each day knowing that your semester grades count toward college. Colleges see your semester grades starting in 9th through 12th. It is important that you hold yourself accountable, strive to do your homework on time and to ask for help when needed. The more effort you put into earning a higher GPA, the more success you can achieve.

– Use your Naviance accounts to research colleges and careers. There are career assessments, college lookups, scholarship information, etc. You will want to add to “Colleges I am thinking about”” list. Reach out if you are having troubles with logging in.

– Use fall break to tour colleges and get exposed to different schools. I suggest starting local with our in-states if you have the time.

-Get out and volunteer! College’s want a well-rounded character; grades are not all that matter.

General communications:

-12/7 Virtual Parent Night covering the general timeline for college applications and extracurricular involvement. Thank you to everyone who attended our financial aid parent night on the 16th. This will be our last parent night of the semester. Hope to see you there!

Please continue checking your Naviance parent and student accounts. Naviance is the one stop shop for all things college. Naviance serves as the platform for students and parents to search for colleges, scholarships, careers as well as stay up to date with Ms. Edmonston’s communications. If you do not have an account or are experiencing difficulties logging in, then please contact me directly at medmonston@ciceroprep.org

Additionally, please make an appointment through Calendly below for any parent meetings you would like to request. I encourage you to make meetings with me as frequently as possible in addition to the regularly scheduled parent meetings I request with you as well.
