To Do List:
Freshmen & Sophomores:
– PSAT dates are set! Sophomores will be taking the PSAT/NMSQT (National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test) during school hours on October 18th. Reminder, scores from the PSAT/NMSQT are used to determine eligibility and qualification for the National Merit Scholarship Program. If your student would like to prepare, we encourage them to download the Bluebook app to take practice exams. Lastly, we are asking all families to contribute $25 to their student’s test cost through Configio.
– Please create a professional Gmail account at your earliest convenience. The email you create in your middle school-junior high years can be unprofessional sometimes and colleges will expect you to have an appropriate username. For example, iceprincess37@gmail.com might not be the most appropriate email address for creating a clean and organized application as well as first impression.
– Move through each day knowing that your semester grades count toward college. Colleges see your semester grades starting in 9th through 12th. It is important that you hold yourself accountable, strive to do your homework on time and to ask for help when needed. The more effort you put into earning a higher GPA, the more success you can achieve.
– Get out and volunteer! Colleges want a well-rounded character; grades are not all that matter.
– Please log into your Naviance account and start exploring! Naviance serves as the platform for students and parents to search for colleges, scholarships, careers as well as stay up to date with Miss Porras’ communications. If you do not have an account or are experiencing difficulties logging in, then please contact me directly at jporras@ciceroprep.org.
Juniors & Seniors:
– PSAT dates are set! Juniors will be taking the PSAT/NMSQT (National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test) during school hours on October 21st.
– Schedule a meeting with me. I would love to meet and get to know you!
– Please continue checking your Naviance account. Naviance is the one stop shop for all things college and serves as the platform for students and parents to search for colleges, scholarships, careers as well as stay up to date with Miss Porras’ communications. If you are having difficulties logging in, please contact me directly at jporras@ciceroprep.org.
I look forward to a great year! The best way to schedule a time to meet with me would be through the Calendly link below.
All meetings will be held in my office located in the Junior/Senior Commons, but I am happy to meet virtually, if needed.
